Ryan Soares promoted to Lakeland

Ryan Soares

Middle infielder Ryan Soares was promoted from extended spring training to the Lakeland Flying Tigers Monday.

Soares, 23, appeared in 38 games with the Connecticut Tigers in 2010, finishing the season with a .220 batting average, .248 on-base percentage and .283 slugging percentage.  He hit one home run and collected eight RBI during his time in Connecticut.

On defense, Soares committed six errors while splitting time between shortstop and second base.

He was the Tigers’ 36th round pick in the 2010 draft.

TigsTown.com’s Mark Anderson is reporting that the Tigers have released former Connecticut Tigers Tyson Kendrick, Chris Sedon, Chao-Ting Tang and Londell Taylor.

Three new players join Connecticut Tigers

Shortstop Dixon Machado and right-handed pitchers Wilsen Palacios and Jeff Ferrell were re-assigned from the Gulf Coast League Tigers to the Connecticut Tigers Monday.

All three players were called up after the GCL Tigers failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing their season with a 30-28 record.

Machado, 18, appeared in 43 games for the GCL Tigers, hitting .261 and slugging .321 in 165 at bats.  The scouting report on his TigsTown.com profile says he has above-average speed and defensive abilities.

Palacios, 20, had a 2.79 ERA with 58 strikeouts and 11 walks in 61.1 innings pitched.  TigsTown.com says he throws a plus fastball and an above-average slider.

Ferrell, 19, had a 3.14 ERA with 57 strikeouts and 12 walks in 57.1 innings pitched.

Brandon Barrow assigned to Connecticut

Left-handed pitcher Brandon Barrow, 21, was assigned to the Connecticut Tigers Thursday after signing a minor league free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers.

Barrow spent time earlier this season with the Burlington Bees, the Midwest League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.  He was originally selected in the tenth round of the 2007 draft by the Florida Marlins.

Kendrick re-joins Connecticut Tigers

Catcher Tyson Kendrick was re-assigned from the Erie SeaWolves to the Connecticut Tigers Friday.

Tyson Kendrick was promoted from the Connecticut Tigers to the Erie SeaWolves Monday.

The 22-year-old catcher played sparingly in his time with Connecticut, receiving only 19 at bats in ten games played.
