Tigers sweep Spinners

The Connecticut Tigers prevailed in come-from-behind fashion Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep of the Lowell Spinners.

Tigers starting pitcher Rayni Guichardo did not factor into the decision Wednesday. His fastball sat 84-86 mph and touched 88.

The Tigers trailed 7-2 entering the ninth inning, but rallied to tie the score and force extra innings.  Eric Roof led off the ninth inning with a single.  Brett Anderson and Ryan Enos followed with walks to load the bases for Matt Mansilla.  Mansilla grounded to shortstop Jose Garcia, but a fielding error by Garcia allowed Roof to score and Mansilla to reach safely.  Chao-Ting Tang cleared the bases with triple, pulling the Tigers to within one run.  P.J Polk was called out on strikes, but Alexander Nunez delivered an RBI single to tie the game and force extra innings.

The score remained even at 7-7 until the bottom of the 11th inning.  Tang got the Tigers started with a single and moved into scoring position by stealing second base.  Polk followed with a bunt up the third base line intended to move Tang over to third base, but third baseman David Renfroe’s throw to first missed the target and allowed Tang to score the game-winning run on an error.

Tigers relief pitcher Drew Gagnier earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings and recording three strikeouts.  Gagnier’s fastball sat between 88 and 91 miles per hour.

The Tigers’ next opponent will be the Tri-City Valleycats in Troy, N.Y.  Josue Carreno (1-1, 3.24) is scheduled to start for the Tigers on Thursday.  He will be opposed by Thomas Shirley (0-0, 0.00) of the Valleycats.
