Sanz sensational in Tigers win

Luis Sanz improved his record to 3-0

Connecticut Tigers starting pitcher Luis Sanz twirled six scoreless innings Tuesday to lead the Tigers over the Lowell Spinners in a 1-0 pitcher’s duel.

Sanz earned the win, improving his record to 3-0 on the season.  He recorded six strikeouts, while allowing only three hits and one walk.  His fastball sat between 89 and 92 miles per hour and touched 93.  He also effectively mixed in a changeup and a sharp curveball.

The Tigers scored their lone run in the second inning when an RBI double off the bat of Ryan Enos plated James Robbins.

Right-handed pitcher Michael Torrealba finished the game for the Tigers, earning a rare three-inning save in which he struck out seven Spinners with a 90-93 mph fastball, a sharp slider and a changeup.

Spinners starting pitcher Madison Younginer was saddled with the loss, allowing one run on four hits in four innings of work.  His fastball sat between 90-94 miles per hour.  He also threw an impressive 12-6 curveball that had great depth thanks to his over-the-top delivery.

The Tigers will try to complete the sweep of the Spinners on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.  Left-handed pitcher Rayni Guichardo (1-0, 9.00) will get the start for the Tigers.  He will be opposed by Tyler Wilson (0-1, 4.00).
