CT Tigers notch first victory of season

The Connecticut Tigers earned their first-ever victory with Saturday’s 7-3 win over the Tri-City Valleycats.

Left fielder P.J. Polk paced the Tigers offense, hitting a home run and scoring two of the Tigers seven runs.  First baseman James Robbins and second baseman Alexander Nunez each contributed two hits to the winning effort.

Starting pitcher Luis Sanz earned the victory, pitching five innings while allowing only one unearned run, and relief pitcher Kevan Hess preserved the win by striking out the side in the ninth inning.

Strikeouts were once again a problem for the Tigers hitters, who combined to strike out 11 times.

The Tigers will wrap up their three-game series with the Valleycats Sunday.  Left-handed pitcher Rayni Guichardo is expected to get the start for the Tigers.  He will be opposed by Murillo Gouvea.
