Scouting Tyson Kendrick

Tyson Kendrick became the first baseball player ever drafted from Tabor College when he was selected by the Tigers in the 49th round of the 2010 MLB draft.  Kendrick led Tabor College with a .441 batting average and .634 slugging percentage this season, while guiding the team’s pitching staff as the starting catcher.

Tabor College head coach Mark Standiford says Kendrick handles the bat well and does not strike out much.  While he does not hit for a lot of power, Kendrick has the ability to shoot the ball from gap to gap.

Defensively, Standiford says Kendrick is a good receiver with a strong arm.

Perhaps Kendrick’s best attribute is his makeup.  Standiford says he is a great competitor, a hard worker and a great teammate.  Kendrick is also very strong mentally.  So much so, that Standiford says he will make a great coach when he is done playing.

Kendrick has already signed with the Tigers and will likely be assigned to Connecticut.
