Scouting Logan Hoch

Wichita State left-handed pitcher Logan Hoch was selected by the Tigers in the 30th round of the 2010 MLB draft.  After sitting out the 2009 season following shoulder surgery, Hoch rebounded in 2010, posting a 2.18 ERA in 33.0 innings pitched, while recording 30 strikeouts.

Wichita State pitching coach Brent Kemnitz says Hoch throws an 87-90 mph fastball, a two-seam fastball, a slider and a straight changeup.  Kemnitz says Hoch is effective against right-handed hitters because of his changeup, but he will probably be looked at as a lefty specialist in pro ball, as he is especially tough on lefties.

Kemnitz describes Hoch as a bulldog with great mound presence.  He will probably be assigned to the Connecticut Tigers after he signs.
