Scouting Jack Duffey
Left-handed pitcher Jack Duffey was selected by the Tigers in the 28th round of the 2010 MLB draft, after leading The Heritage School to a Georgia class AA state championship this season as the team’s ace pitcher and first baseman.
The Heritage School head coach Lynn Huffstickler says Duffey throws an 88-89 mph fastball that has peaked at 91 mph. He also throws a mid-to-high 70s changeup and a slider that he likes to spot on the outside corner against right-handed hitters.
Duffey has a projectable 6-foot-2 frame and Huffstickler believes his velocity will increase in the future, possibly reaching 93-94 mph. Huffstickler also says Duffey is very composed on the mound and has a great pickoff move to first base.
Duffey will attend Gulf Coast Community College if he chooses not to sign with the Tigers.
